We have had an exciting and hard working start to this term at Essa Primary Academy. Our new Reception children have settled into school life well and are enjoying exploring their new learning environment. We look forward to getting to know our new families over the year. The Reception outdoor learning environment has been a significant project over the summer and is now completed. Anna Lucas from Lucas Training has worked with the staff team to create high quality outdoor learning provision in order to enhance learning experiences and raise progress levels.
Children in Year One are learning about Castles and historic buildings and recently enjoyed a trip to Smithills Hall. Year Two are learning about ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures and will be inviting parents to visit their art gallery later in the term. The topic of volcanoes is the focus for Year Three. Their 3D volcano models looked fantastic, particularly when they erupted. Year Four’s ‘Deep Abyss’ topic has seen the children enjoying developing their technical drawing skills whilst studying fish.
Our new Children and Families worker, Mrs Pukielo-Collier has worked hard this half term to support families in accessing help from numerous external agencies whilst also welcoming parents to school to share their views and find out how they can support the school. We look forward to frequent coffee mornings during the year.
The new School Council has now been established. We have welcomed two children from each year group to act as representatives for their classes. Their ideas will help us to further improve the school and help to select charities and events to support during the year.
As we look ahead to the rest of the term we will be inviting parents in to school to find out about our new spelling programme. We will also begin work on our art project for the term in which we will focus on the core values for the school and develop textile banners for display in the school hall.
Towards the end of term we will be preparing for Christmas and our annual performance. The school choir will be performing in the local community and will be rehearsing for their performance at the Manchester Arena in the new year.
